NDIS Providers

Written by Jack Porter - Trainee Underwriter - Casualty

The NDIS provides the necessary funding to people with a permanent and significant disability so they can access the supports and services they need. Providers are an important part of the NDIS, delivering supports and services that help participants pursue their goals.

Every NDIS participant has an individual plan that lists their desired outcomes, the supports they will use and the funding they have received. Providers are one of the main contact points for NDIS participants.

Before becoming a registered provider, it is necessary to be assessed against the relevant NDIS Practice Standards. This is done through an independent quality audit. These audits include:

  • Site visits

  • Inspection of sites, facilities equipment and services

  • Participant interviews

  • Worker interviews

  • Reviewing the documents and information about your business

  • Asking you to supply more information about your practices

Participants receive funding in their plans to access ‘reasonable and necessary’ services and supports to help pursue their goals. These supports fall into categories aligned with their purpose. These are:

  1. Assistance with Daily Life

  2. Transport

  3. Consumables

  4. Assistance with Social & Community Participation

  5. Assistive Technology

  6. Home Modifications

  7. Coordination of Supports

  8. Improved Living Arrangements

  9. Increased Social and Community Participation

  10. Finding and Keeping a Job

  11. Improved Relationships

  12. Improved Health and Wellbeing

  13. Improved Learning

  14. Improved Life Choices

  15. Improved Daily Living
